Welcome to the new website of Trinity Church Long Island

Welcome to the new website of Trinity Church Long Island! Whatever brought you to us, we’re glad you’re here, and we hope we can help you learn more about us and also be a friend to you.

One thing people often want to know about a church is what they believe. There are a lot of churches, and they don’t all seem to agree, which can be really confusing. Where is Trinity on the “map” of churches?

We belong to a denomination (an organized group of churches) called the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. We are “confessional,” meaning our beliefs about what the Bible teaches are summarized in a confession of faith – specifically, the Westminster Confession of Faith. This puts us in the “Reformed” tradition of churches going back to the Protestant Reformation. We seek to base our theology, worship, and life on the Bible, paying attention to what wise Christians before us have taught – early fathers such as Irenaeus, Clement, and Augustine; Reformers such as Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin; and even teachers today such as R.C. Sproul, J. I. Packer, John Piper, and Tim Keller.

Jesus sent His church into the world with good news of who He is and what He has done to save sinners. This “gospel” is the center of our lives, and we want others to experience the freedom and healing it brings – Jesus called this “making disciples.” In the sense that we joyfully believe, live by, and share the good news, we are “evangelical.”

We want to do all of this in friendship with all Christians who love the gospel, even those who disagree with us on secondary issues. We all have much to learn from each other.

We hope we will be able to get to know you more personally, worship together, and grow with you in the peace that comes in having Jesus Christ as our Lord.
